Well, it's 1st July tomorrow, [livejournal.com profile] watsons_woes will be starting JWP 2015 and I... have decided to do Flash Fiction Month on dA. I know, I know - I'm a terrible fanfic writer (steady). Scampering off to write original fiction. But I feel I've been neglecting that side of things, and I would like to try FFM again - I had a wonderful time last year. I do wish I could do both challenges though - to be honest, I feel in general more at home on LJ than dA now. Anyway, I'm going to try and do some of the August Amnesty prompts on WW to make up for things, and I'm intending to read all the submissions and cheer everybody else on.

While I'm here, thought I'd do a bit of a round-up as to what I've been up to on LJ lately:

As anyone reading this probably already knows, I took part in Round 6 over on [livejournal.com profile] acd_holmesfest. I'm very glad that I did because the comm has now gone on an indefinite hiatus. (I believe Mrs. Hudson has drawn up a cleaning rota for the comm members, so that the comm will look exactly the same when the mods come back.) I certainly enjoyed writing my fic and I received a wonderful gift fic, far beyond anything I was anticipating (I refer you to my previous post ^^). Oh, and my fic (the one I wrote) was post no. 221 in the comm. I know it doesn't really mean anything but I was tickled.

There was some really wonderful stuff in this round - I felt proud for my work to be in its company. I've signed up to do some recs for [livejournal.com profile] 221b_recs in August but here's a few brief ones now.

The Seventeenth Page Affliction by [livejournal.com profile] emmyangua; R, Holmes/Watson, warnings for suicide (not a main character), period typical homophobia. This fic really stood out for me - the writer did something completely different from everyone else. What seems to start off as a lighthearted case fic becomes something darker, covering several years. And there's a fascinating OC.

The Adventure of the Bridegroom's Photograph by [livejournal.com profile] spacemutineer; PG, Gen. An assured, gripping case fic, based on real events. The author gives you a satisfying mystery, while also dealing movingly with the human side of things - the people who have been affected by what happened.

The Case of the Rose By Another Name by [livejournal.com profile] hiddenlacuna; G, Gen. So funny and charmingly silly. The "shaggy dog story" related within the fic is great, but it's the parts framing it that make it so special: Holmes is suffering from a cold and Watson is summoned to look after him... (Wonderful, wonderful last line. *falls over laughing again*)

Quite some time ago now, I also took part in [livejournal.com profile] intoabar's Spring 2015 Challenge. The character I chose was Dr. Evadne Hinge (of Hinge and Bracket, and Dear Ladies fame), and the character I was assigned for her to meet was (the ACD) Irene Adler. I think my story A Musical Evening with Sherlock Holmes turned out pretty well. It certainly got a good reaction from the entire Dear Ladies fandom - or "my older sister", as it's otherwise known - the feedback being that it was the best thing I'd written for Hinge and Bracket so far ^^

So, that's about it with regard to writing. I must just see if I can come up with something for [livejournal.com profile] fan_flashworks, and then it's a case of waiting for the first FFM prompt... (*gulps*)

Good luck! I'm certainly looking forward to your original (or OED) fiction.

Thanks ^_^ And that's a thought - perhaps once a week I'll do a post here with links back to the stories on dA.

I'm sorry you won't be doing JWP, but have fun at FFM. My own contribution will be spasmodic - I'm away for a few days mid July and I find it considerably less stressful if I don't need to commit to every day. And there really is no point getting stressed.

So pleased you liked Emmy's fic - she was really worried about it.

I'm sure you could produce one of Mrs Hudson's poems for fan_flashworks - there must be an appropriate prompt ;)

With FFM last year, I wouldn't say I enjoyed the stress but I did thrive on it. I produced some stuff I was very, very pleased with. I've always been a writer who had problems coming up with initial ideas, but there I was coming up with a new story each day. It made me realise I can always find a story to write if I just go looking for it. Anyway, I hope you have fun too at JWP and I will look out for your contributions (and try and guess which are your prompts ^_^).

I thought emmyangua's fic was exceptional. She's such a talented writer. Btw, I keep meaning to mention it to you - it was only when rachelindeed posted her fic to AO3 that I realised you'd betaed it ^_^ And it was only then I understood your rather enigmatic remark about you thinking I'd like it, and no, it wasn't yours ^^ You poor woman - having to beta my fic and my gift fic. But I'm very grateful - thank you on both counts ^_^

And I've got an almost-finished Sherlock ficlet which I think will just about do for the fan_flashworks "technology". It was going to be for the WW prompt "Be Prepared" but I don't think John is suffering enough in it for WW :P

Wishing you all the best with your fic endeavours, and I would be grateful for links. 60 words a week(and side poetic bits for Mrs H) is entirely sufficient for writing at present, but I am interested in reading what you get up to.

Thanks so much ^_^ Though you may live to regret asking for links... :P

And I always look forward to reading your writing ^^

Impressed at your ( and the small hobbits ) level of productivity:-)

Thanks for the kind words and the rec! :D I'm delighted you liked the last line - it came to me in a flash and I built the whole fic around it. The person I was writing for had asked for humorous fluffy gen, so I'm very pleased it lived up to the request! :)

Your story was really fun and I enjoyed myself tremendously while reading it - I really liked the scenes of Mary and Ann conspiring to remove the papers, and that Scandal was a revengeful piece of memoir writing! Hee.

You're most welcome ^^ I love your story - it was one of my absolute favourites out of the fest. And I'm so pleased you enjoyed my story - I had fun writing it.
