Sort of back...
Mar. 17th, 2016 08:39 pmJust letting you know I'm sort of back online at home.
My phone line is still dead - apparently it "may be a few more days" before it's fixed. (*laughs mildly hysterically* Last time our phone line failed it was weeks before the phone company were able to mend it and they had to dig up the road ^^") However, my brother has lent me a mobile Wi-Fi device to use in the meantime.
It's not unlimited usage, so I may still not be around as much as I usually am. But it will allow me to take part in
sherlock60 on Sunday ^_^ And it's just such a relief to have the option of being able to use the internet at home.

Date: 2016-03-17 10:59 pm (UTC)We tried MagicJack, which you might've heard of, but it wasn't much better. However, we've been using StraightTalk now for going over two weeks and are perfectly happy with it. The original device is a little expensive, but nothing in comparison to usual phone rates. About the price of one month's service. After that, it's $15 a month, unlimited local and long distance. No complaints so far, and it was great to kick Frontier!
Plus, there's the extra benefit of the phone number not being listed without paying any more. :-)

Date: 2016-03-18 11:04 am (UTC)There are two phone companies involved in our situation: the one we pay for the Wi-Fi and the phone calls, and the one that actually owns the phone lines. The latter one is, of course, the one who’s sorting out the repairs. And to be fair, they were very good the last time our phone line died. Someone came out pretty quickly but then they discovered they were going to have to dig up the road to sort the problem out. They asked the local council for permission and our council gave them a date months away. So, bless ‘em, the phone company eventually sneaked in and just dug up the road anyway ^_^ (This is a quiet country lane I’m talking about. And they were only digging up the side of the road, so traffic could still get through.) The phone line was repaired and the road put back to rights over the course of a morning ^^
